Established in 2007 and inspired by the beauty of the Lake District and the cute and characterful Herdwick sheep, Herdy has grown from a seed of an idea into a highly respected, lovable brand. Herdy gifts, homeware and accessories are designed with a simple mission in mind - to make you smile. With responsibility woven into the fabric of the company from day one, Herdy supports upland fell farming and sustainable rural community projects through the Herdy Fund. Herdy have won numerous awards for their responsible business practice and in 2019 the Herdy Fund achieved charitable status, managed by the Cumbria Community Foundation.

Over 150 years of experience

Dating back to 1840, Harrison Spinks is a fifth-generation family business that today employs over 600 people. With a string of Queens Enterprise Awards, for both sustainability and innovation, they are an exemplar manufacturer in the bedding industry. Harrison Spinks are the first UK based bed manufacturer to achieve Carbon Neutral+ status for every aspect of the manufacturing process and are committed to reducing their carbon footprint further, with initiatives such as tree planting with local schools and promoting wildlife on the company owned farm.

Sustainable partnership

The result of this partnership is the creation of the Herdysleep mattress; a traditional, pocket sprung mattress, handmade in the heart of Yorkshire. The natural wool used in the filling provides a commercially viable, long-term use for Herdwick wool, helping to preserve and protect a sustainable future for the Lake District’s upland fell farming community. By buying 100% of the wool from a co-operative of farms at a fairly traded rate, it means reduced overheads for the farmer and a better return for them.
